Shear brilliance
It’s not secret that I like music, in fact I love it. I love the way it can make you feel, the way it can inspire. Sometimes, just sometimes, an album or a piece of music comes along that speaks to my soul in a profound way, that just chimes with where you are, when you are and what you are doing.
The new album from Shearwater is exactly that. Here, at the beginning of 2012, is a work of art that is tinged with melancholy but at the same time so infused with hope, joy and wonder it is utterly in tune with how I feel about what this year is going to bring.
I hear a huge amount of good music but so much of it is ephemeral. It’s good in that time, in that place but soon slips away to be replaced by the next thing but there’s a tangible difference, almost a different taste if that isn’t an odd thing to say about music, between those records & the ones you just instinctively know are going to be with you for life.
